So I volunteered to put together a drive
in July. Problem was…I was swamped at work. In
order to get some participation, I ordained the upcoming
drive a “Mystery.” Seemed to work, as we
had 40 people sign up for the event.
We woke to a beautiful morning in the
East Bay. As cars gathered at the Stoneridge mall we
all got pretty excited by the turnout. Paul and TJ finally
showed up with the sharks and we headed up to Walnut
Creek. Heading up 680, we ran into a Mustang GT that
thought he was fast. We had two e46 M3’s that
proved him wrong.
Funny thing was, as I looked down and
saw the needle pass 100MPH, I noticed that an older
woman driving a powder blue Passat was also cruising
at 100MPH. Classic.
We met up with the rest of the group
at the coffee joint on Ygnacio Valley Road.
When we took off, we headed for the
top of Mt. Diablo, 40 cars strong. We used radio communication
to avoid obstacles, and made it up without a hitch.
The bike traffic is just crazy, so great care was taken
to make sure everyone was safe.
The view from the summit was fantastic,
as can be seen in the pictures. After we took some great
pics, we headed down the mountain to Blackhawk Auto
Museum in Danville. We grabbed some lunch and checked
out the fantastic collection of cars.
All in all a beautiful day with a great,
safe drive. Thanks to all who came out!
