It was
a chilly morning. I picked up my friend Brian
(previously of the American Iron-Only religion) and
left Discovery Bay for the Richmond Bridge.
All was
well until I hit that pavement separation and things
felt a little loose. I rolled into Starbucks for
a little high-test prior to a quick inspection.
Turns out when I installed the GC Coilover kit I neglected
to properly torque the top strut nuts. Doh!!!
Thankfully, I always carry some tools, and we were good
to go in no time.
As we
entered the bridge Authority parking lot, we were greeted
by Tim Ossun and his leopard-skin sandals, those puppies
are classics. About 20 Bay Bimmerz members showed
- that until the other 25 cars from the South Bay showed
up! We hung around for 30 minutes or so, checking
out some of the rides, and then we were off to Sonoma.
Cruising along at 90 mph, I was content....until the
guy (who reminds me of my dad in a lot of ways) blew
by me in his Alpina M6. That man knew how to have
a good time!
Entering
the track, sweet cars were all around. The Corvette
club, Viper club, Audi club and BMWCCA were all out
in force. Unfortunately we all ended up parking
in the dust for most of the day until a bunch of us
crashed the corral area (amazing what a slipping a beer
to the security guy will get you...)
We had
perfect weather, the BMW hospitality tent was great,
and, of course, fellow Bimmerphiles were out in force.
We saw some great action in turn 11, and BMW's ruled
the day. Man I want a V8! Thanks to Jay
and the gang for organizing the event, Tim for leading
the charge and BMW for producing the Ultimate Driving
Machine.
