I didn’t
think the rain would ever stop that night. I could only
imagine it pouring down rain today and me being the
only person to show up for our Pyramid Brewery Drive.
I mean who wants to take an extremely twisty road in
the rain with the chance of driving your beloved BMW
off the thousand foot cliff?
The gods must have been smiling on us,
because when I woke up there was no rain. Tons of clouds
and the roads were still wet but no rain coming down.
After some time cleaning the car I made my way to the
gas station. While pulling out I see the beautiful site
of a black e34 540i Touring. I decided to give chase.
As I pulled out, I noticed that behind the Touring was
a black e46 M3 being chased down by a white e34 540
in sitting on a set of BBS RX’s.
Now my blood is pumping! I get on the gas trying my
best to catch up, I slide in with the pack and pull
between Keith in his black 540i and Curt in the Touring.
We drop into the Canyon and the road is very wet, with
all our tires spraying light mist in the air. As we
pull into the Golf Course I am amazed that there are
already about 20 cars waiting. The wait at the Golf
Course is long for a good reason. A scout was sent up
the road and ended up running into three cop cars that
had apparently heard that a drive was planned. Everyone
is given a warning about the road being extremely slippery
and about the 3 cops, and we finally hit the road.
The lead group (apparently situationally
deaf) heads out like a bat out of hell. I laugh and
lead us slowpokes (I mean sane folks) in the second
group. Once past all the cop hideouts I see the nose
of Keith’s 540i all the way up my tail pipe. Ok
it’s on! Keith and charge through the canyon and
man I can not shake this black beast behind me. I get
the rear end to slide out a few times watching my wife
grab the oh-shit bar (this is a technical term). Keith
and I put a good distance on the pack but the second
we slow down they are on us. We take it a little slow
the next few miles because we are now on the edge of
a cliff and the road is a bit slippery.
At our halfway stop, it looks as though the lead group
has been there for hours! These guys must have been
flying! We stayed for a little while and continued on
our route. Things got a bit hectic on the freeway with
traffic and some directional issues. Once we arrived
at Pyramid we learned that a few people did not make
the exit and one of our members was a little hot exiting
the freeway and had minor incident that left him with
a broken wheel. After a few spilled drinks and some
good food everything turned out great!
